Alexis Light, MD (she/her) is an OB/GYN physician with the VHC Physician Group. Originally from California, she moved across the country to earn her Bachelor of Liberal Arts in Medical Anthropology and Photography from Hampshire College in 2006. Dr. Light received her Doctor of Medicine and Master of Public Health degrees from Tulane University in 2014. In medical school, Dr. Light served as a research fellow at the University of California, San Francisco, where she studied many different aspects of reproductive health and family planning. She also served as Chair of the National Gender and Sexuality Committee for the American Medical Student Association. She completed her Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency at Georgetown University / Medstar Washington Hospital Center in 2018 and worked for a local private practice before joining VHC Physician Group – OB/GYN in the fall of 2020. She provides full spectrum obstetrical and gynecological care including minimally invasive gynecologic surgery.
Dr. Light is particularly dedicated to taking care of patients who have been previously marginalized and disenfranchised by the healthcare system, including in past obstetrical and gynecological care settings. She is specialized in Trauma Informed Care as well as the care of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender individuals, with a particular focus on gynecological needs, contraception use, and pregnancy in transgender men. She offers gender-affirming hormone care per World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) guidelines, as well as routine gynecological, surgical, and pregnancy care for transgender and gender-diverse individuals.
Dr. Light is a Fellow with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and a Fellow in the Society of Family Planning. She is a member of the WPATH and the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association. When not at work, Dr. Light enjoys spending time with her wife, two young children, and large dog, gardening, (gluten-free) baking, traveling, and advocating for health equity.
