I’m a 24 year old AFAB — not married, no partner, no children. Got a bisalp Dec 2024. I’ve never wanted kids for as early as I can remember; I’ve been thinking about sterilization for a while, and the recent political climate was kind of the straw that broke the camel’s back. Dr. Chichura was so kind, understanding, and immediately willing to perform the surgery. No bingos. There was the obligatory “here are some other options instead of sterilization” and “potential regret” talk, but when I said I still wanted a bisalp, she had no further questions and agreed to perform the surgery. She said, and I quote, “As your doctor, I don’t think it would be fair to gatekeep a procedure from you that would make you happy. If you’re confident in what you want, I’ll do it.” Surgery went super well — she asked if I wanted any music to drift off to sleep to, and the last thing I remember was mouthing the words to Charli XCX’s “360” lmao. I’ve had no pain, just a bit of soreness as if I did an ab workout. Haven’t needed any pain meds (OTC or prescribed), Gas-X, etc.
