I decided to become a doctor when I was 9 years old. I was always interested in science, and as a child, I had a fascination for reading medical-mystery books. I remember sketching medical diagrams in my notebook and trying to figure out if I could find a cure for certain diseases.
chose to specialize in obstetrics and gynecology because I believe high-quality gynecologic care that includes reproductive, contraceptive, and hormonal services should be available to everyone who needs it. My goal is for my patients to be well informed about how their bodies work and be empowered to address their individual healthcare needs.
As a gynecologist, I see patients for their annual well visits as well as to manage abnormal Pap test results, abnormal bleeding, and issues related to menopause. I perform procedures such as placing intrauterine devices and contraceptive implants, and provide counseling for people who are considering becoming pregnant. I also see children and teenagers for development-related issues, vaginal and vulvar infections, vaginal bleeding, and menstrual concerns.
At NYU Langone, I serve as chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, where I lead an exceptional team of physicians who provide comprehensive care to people at every stage of their lives. We offer a full range of integrated services that includes fertility services, pregnancy care, minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, and gynecologic cancer treatment.
As a physician, I believe in being a good listener and making a personal connection with patients. I spend time getting to know each person and learning more about them and their families.
My research includes looking at predictors of hospital or emergency department readmission after childbirth. This helps us look at ways that we can make sure new parents have everything they need to stay home and stay healthy after giving birth and leaving the hospital. We are also looking into ways to better address mental health needs that may surface before and after childbirth.
I am passionate about teaching and mentoring the next generation of gynecologists and obstetricians and have received many resident and medical student teaching awards over the years. I am a board examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
