Why did you choose to become a doctor and specialize in OBGYN?

'I’ve wanted to become a doctor for as long as I can remember. I’ve always had an affinity for science, I enjoy challenges, and I love building relationships with people, and medicine encompasses all of those. The continuity of care and level of trust that we’re able to build with patients as Ob/Gyns is unique, and I enjoy the balance between inpatient and outpatient care. It’s pretty special to be able to advocate for patients and help them achieve their reproductive goals, and it’s rewarding to educate women so they can make the best treatment decisions for themselves."

Reddit Testimonial (r/childfree)

Dr Jessica Barr at AkermanMed – the only thing I remember Dr. Barr really asking me was “no babies, right?” To which I replied “yup, no babies.” 29yo bilateral salpingectomy. She of course gave the standard talk of how sterilization is permanent and told me the pros and cons. She said that adding the uterine scraping would change it from a 15 minute procedure to 45 minutes, plus she wanted to look around my uterus and whatever while she’s in there, to make sure everything looks good. We did a laparoscopic tubal bisalp and scraping of the uterine lining and iud removal. The procedure they wrote is “bilateral salpingectomy hysteroscopy dilation and circtlage (sp?), novasure endometrial ablation, intrauterine device removal”
