As a doctor of osteopathic medicine (DO), I practice a patient-centered, holistic, hands-on approach to diagnosing and treating illness and injury. I was taught to think of the person as a unity of mind, body and spirit. Everything is interconnected, so I’m not just caring for a person physically, but I understand they have emotional needs too. Patient and family education is an important piece in the patient-physician relationship. I am trained in OB-GYN and I provide health care for women in all stages of their life including preventive exams, contraception, pregnancy and delivery care, infertility, menstrual issues, minimally-invasive surgeries, and menopausal therapies. In 2014 I spent four weeks in Africa for a medical mission trip, and I hope to go on more medical mission trips in the future.
Why did you become a doctor?
I followed in my grandfather’s footsteps and became an OB-GYN. I love to care for women in all stages of their lives.
When you’re not working, what do you like to do for fun?
I like to spend time with my husband, my daughter, my dogs and my cat. I also bake, play board games, travel, hike, and enjoy the beautiful outdoors (during all four seasons).
What are your favorite ways of staying healthy?
I like to stay healthy through exercise (walking and jogging with my family and dog), and hiking, if we have time on weekends.
Where is your hometown?
I was born and raised in south Minneapolis and was excited to move back to the city with my husband. We enjoy living close to my family and traveling to California in the winter to visit his family.
How would your friends and family describe you?
They would say I am caring, compassionate, willing to help out (even if that puts others before myself or my needs), friendly, approachable, easy-going and a good listener.
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a “baby doctor” like my grandfather (the OB-GYN).
What is your favorite thing about living in Minnesota?
I love the four seasons, and the outdoor activities Minnesota has to offer.
What are your top achievements?
Board-certified in OB-GYN.
