About

I am proud to be a Bay Area native. I was born and raised in San Francisco, then completed my undergraduate degree at UC Berkeley. After college, I volunteered as a doula at the community hospital where I myself was born. The experience of supporting and advocating for women through childbirth was incredibly rewarding. It taught me the importance of building relationships and honoring patients’ values and wishes. It also solidified my decision to pursue a career in women’s health. I went on to receive my medical degree from Boston University, then completed my residency training at Kaiser Permanente in Los Angeles. I am thrilled to return to the Bay Area to serve the community I come from.

I look forward to caring for women through all stages of life- adolescence, pregnancy, menopause, and beyond! I hope that we can work together to personalize your health care based on your needs, priorities, and goals. It is important to me that you feel comfortable and empowered with the knowledge and resources to make decisions for your health. I chose to work at Kaiser Permanente because I truly believe that its integrated health care system and wealth of resources is the best model for providing care and helping our patients achieve well-being.

Dr. Vivian Chu in Redwood City, California. Procedure completed: Bilateral salpingectomy. I’m 18 (19 in November), have no kids, not married. Info about my experience: After our telephone consultation, she had me check-in with my therapist before proceeding with next steps, which could be because of my social anxiety issues and the fact that I was emotional over the phone with her (I was so passionate about my decision and didn’t want to get denied). She also was obligated to bring up the study on the rate of regret for the procedure, but she didn’t try talking me out of it, only had me acknowledge the risks.
